Snellville, Ga. (December 20, 2024) – Piedmont Eastside Medical Center is excited to have the new Single Port da Vinci robot. Piedmont Eastside is the first hospital in the Piedmont system to use this cutting-edge technology.
This robot allows surgeons to perform a variety of minimally-invasive procedures. Benefits of robotic surgery can include shorter hospitalization, reduced pain and discomfort, faster return to normal activities, a single incision, reduced blood loss and transfusions, among other benefits.
“This technology offers a single incision, providing less pain and scarring and a much faster recovery, which creates an overall better experience for our patients,” said Stephen Higgins, M.D., Piedmont Eastside’s chief medical officer. “This robot acts as another pair of hands, allowing the surgeon and robot to act as an extension of one another, to view the area of concern, with precision.”
The team utilizes this robot for those with certain urology concerns involving kidneys, prostate, and/or bladder. Other advantages of this minimally-invasive surgery include fewer complications, lower blood loss, same-day discharge, and better cosmetic results.
“We are very happy to offer this high level of care to Gwinnett County,” said Larry Ebert, chief executive officer at Piedmont Eastside. “This is another way Piedmont is embracing the leading technology to provide you with exceptional, hassle-free care”.
