Monroe, Ga. (February 20, 2025) – Walton County women now have expanded access to breast health care at the new Piedmont Walton Breast Imaging Center. An open house and ribbon cutting ceremony were held this week, giving members of the community the opportunity to tour the new space and learn more about the expanded services now offered closer to home.
The center offers screening and diagnostic mammography, with diagnostic results available on the same day. The center also provides breast ultrasound, and will soon offer stereotactic breast biopsies, and ultrasound-guided core biopsies.
“The center is convenient, easily accessible, and fully equipped with the latest technology,” said Joey Vira, director of Radiology at Piedmont Walton. “Our goal was to create a comfortable, relaxed environment for patients while also ensuring they receive high-quality care.”
According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. Research indicates the key to beating the disease is through early detection using self-exams and annual screening mammograms.
“It is important women get screened for breast cancer, regardless of their family history,” said Vira. “Eighty percent of women who are diagnosed don’t have any reported risk factors, which include family history, race, and ethnicity. This means that almost any woman is at risk for breast cancer, especially those over the age of 40.”
