Diagnostic Mammogram
Piedmont offers advanced imaging techniques, including 3D mammography (or tomosynthesis), which improves diagnostic accuracy for better treatment.
Breast Ultrasound
Using high-frequency sound waves, a breast ultrasound is used to further check an abnormality and can be used to determine an accurate lesion location during a biopsy.
Advanced Breast MRI
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used in certain situations for more detailed images than with mammograms, especially when the breast tissue is more dense than usual.
Breast Biopsy
Once the presence of abnormal tissue is confirmed, a biopsy is performed to obtain tissue for analysis by one of Piedmont’s expert pathologists. The procedure involves local anesthetic and a small incision in the skin. Core breast biopsies can be done by palpation, ultrasound, X-ray (stereo) or MRI guided.
Pathology Report
The analysis of the biopsy tissue shows whether breast cancer is present or not in the body. A board-certified Piedmont pathologist examines the tissue, and reports are sent directly to the doctor who performed the biopsy.
