Care Partner Policy (Updated December 4, 2024)
To best support the mental and emotional wellbeing of our patients, care partner (i.e. a family member or caregiver) guidelines are as follows:
- Two (2) care partners are permitted for inpatient units.
- Two (2) care partners are permitted for an Emergency Department patient’s visit.
- Two (2) care partners are permitted for procedures, surgeries, and when legal guardians need to accompany patients requiring assistance to navigate their visit in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Two (2) care partners will be allowed in the outpatient imaging departments, including for screening mammography, CT, MRI, and ultrasound.
- Two (2) care partners are permitted in Labor & Delivery and the Special Care Nursery. Postpartum patients may have up to four (4) care partners.
Additional Guidance for Visitors
- For most units, there are no age restrictions for visitors, although a minor does “count” toward the total number of permitted visitors. There are two exceptions:
- Siblings are the only minors permitted in Women’s Services and Labor & Delivery. Special Care Nursery does not permit minors at this time.
- For the ICU, visitors under the age of 12 should be approved by the patient’s care team (nurse and provider) prior to coming to the unit.
- A patient’s visitor(s) may stay overnight with the patient, unless otherwise directed by a member of the care team.
- When needed, a visitor may “swap out” to allow for another person to visit.
Safety Guidelines for Visitors
- All care partners should follow respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette precautions.
Please understand that the decision to limit visitation to any of our patients was not made lightly. We strive to consistently deliver the safest, highest quality, patient-centered care and services to the community we are blessed to serve. We are committed to treating our patients and their visitors with the care and compassion that we would want for ourselves.
