Emergency Medicine Residency Program in Macon
Welcome to the Piedmont Macon Emergency Medicine Residency Program! The primary goal of our program is to provide a strong clinical foundation, instill a sense of community and professionalism, while developing future academic and community leaders.
Piedmont Macon Medical Center is a 310-bed acute care hospital located in Macon, Georgia. The Emergency Department houses a certified Stroke, STEMI and certified sepsis center. Piedmont Macon’s services include specialty facilities such as an advanced cardiac center offering all services from non-invasive cardiology to open heart surgery. We also have a dedicated cancer center, maternity services including a level III neonatal nursery and a behavioral health program providing treatment to adults with psychiatric and addiction issues through inpatient and outpatient programs.
Our Emergency Medicine faculty provide high-quality patient care with experience in the diverse subspecialties of emergency medicine including point of care ultrasound, environmental and toxicological emergencies, simulation medicine, international medicine, emergency medical services, aeromedical services, and health disparities. Each faculty member is dedicated to educating and mentoring residents through didactic, clinical, and research experiences. As a 3-year residency program dedicated to training physicians with a focus on community medicine, interns and seniors alike see patients of all acuity. With our 2:1 resident: attending Pod System, we are able to increase formal and informal clinical teaching opportunities. Additionally, we hold a deep value for diversity and inclusion and actively strive to incorporate this key principle into our recruitment, didactics, and overall mission.
We are affiliated with Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM). With this affiliation, faculty and residents have access to library resources and academic support for mentoring and research. Residents play an integral role in medical students teaching and mentorship. All of our core faculty have academic appointments to MUSM.
Piedmont Macon shares a state-of-the-art simulation center through our affiliation with MUSM. The simulation curriculum aids residents in mastering skills in a safe and interactive environment. The training our residents receive is extraordinary with outstanding didactics, excellent procedural experience, and a vast number of unique extracurricular educational opportunities to round out the knowledge they gain at the bedside.
We are excited to have the opportunity to build a strong Emergency Medicine program dedicated to the Macon community, which allows us to provide superb medical training and patient care while preparing the next generation of emergency physicians. We are actively looking for energetic residents to build on this program's foundation.
